The BHPIO Mining Area C Asset Management team required a 3D Asset Management platform that could provide an accurate as built hub and powerful visualisation platform for the site engineering team. Due to the age of the initial engineering and detailing, there was array of different models of varying degree of BIM specification, or in some cases non-existent (2D only).
PDC were engaged to assist in the overall consolidation and delivery of As Built 3D models delivered in the iConstruct and Navisworks platform.
To achieve this, PDC were required to:
A survey indicated site team would spend up to one (1) hour locating relevant and correct engineering information. After the implementation of the intelligent 3D platform, this was reduced to 5 minutes. There were also instances out of date Design Information used for maintenance works resulting significant time delays and cost overruns. Access to the As Built detail drawings mitigated this risk.
The major advantage and in-fact the point of difference between this platform and other softwares is the ability to view surveys data (Topography, Ariel Image, underground services) all on one Integrated Platform. Giving global and associative reference to objects (Models) instead of just a name or number as per a document. The program is fully customisable and easily managed and administrated by local users.
The integrated platform that brings many different types of data together includes:
All models are then linked to Projectwise, using iConstruct and a small code; opens Projectwise and takes you to the latest revision. The platofrm allows access to non-technical databases like 1DOC and the intranet documentation like Confined Space and working at heights permits / registers.
This is really the foundation platform. To achieve, the PDC BIM team worked with BHP to process and clean up all the old models into the a standard model format. The benifet is then like below, but then the ability provided the visualisation such as the whiteboards to assist with work planning and coordination and management of confined space etc
